Tourism Skills Cornwall

Tourism Skills Cornwall - website

During 2014 and 2015 Tourism Growth designed and delivered a programme of one-day training courses in Cornwall – to meet the specific needs of tourism, hospitality and leisure businesses from across the county.

We worked in partnership with Tourism Skills Cornwall, who supported our programme and promoted our courses to their extensive network of employers.

As a result, over 150 owners and managers attended the training courses which we ran in Bodmin, Liskeard, Newquay, Redruth and Wadebridge.

Cornwall Training Courses: 2014-15 Programme

A wide range of businesses attended, including:

  • Hotels
  • Holiday Parks
  • Visitor Attractions
  • Campsites
  • Restaurants
  • Caterers
  • Pubs & Bars
  • B&Bs
  • Self-Catering
  • Nightclubs
  • Golf Clubs
  • Surf Lodges
  • A Flying Club
  • Wedding and Events Venues

All in all, a very representative picture of the Cornwall tourism industry.

So how did we manage to bring all these businesses together and meet their needs on the day? To start with, the training courses we selected – on topics such as boosting sales online, using social media for your business, managing TripAdvisor, using your website to drive profits and revenue management – really appealed to everyone. Secondly, our trainer thoroughly researched each business in advance – so was able to gear the sessions to the individual needs of each delegate.

The feedback from all those attending was extremely positive.

Each business went away with a list of ‘quick wins’ – practical, straightforward tips and ideas they could take away and implement back at work to help improve sales and profits.
